What is the autonomic nervous system?

The autonomic nervous system is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions, such as the heart rate, digestion and respiratory rate.  It comprises two antagonistic sets of nerves, the sympathetic  (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous systems.  People suffering from chronic pain, anxiety, depression and/or sleeplessness, suffer from autonomic dysfunction, a condition which can be described as an imbalance between the sympathetic (SNS) and parasympathetic (PSNS) nervous systems.

In general terms, Nu-V3 and the Nu-V3 Program, over a period of weeks, work to regain this balance, resulting in significant relief from these debilitating symptoms, short and long term.

The sympathetic nervous system (SNS)

The sympathetic nervous system connects the internal organs to the brain by spinal nerves, especially the vagus nerve.  Those suffering from chronic symptoms are often in "sympathetic overdrive" or a constant state of fight or flight.  When stimulated, these nerves prepare the organism for stress by increasing the heart rate, increasing blood flow to the muscles throughout the body and lowering inflammation.

Nu-V3 helps to provide this vagus nerve stimulation to create production of Met-enkephalins, reduce  sympathetic overdrive and allowing the body to rest, relax and recover.  This stimulation also increases blood flow for better recovery and circulation.

The parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS)

The nerve fibres of the parasympathetic nervous system are the cranial nerves, primarily the vagus nerve, and the lumbar spinal nerves.  The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body's rest and digestion response when the body is relaxed, resting, or feeding. It basically undoes the work of sympathetic division after a stressful situation.  When stimulated, these nerves increase digestive secretions and reduce the heartbeat.  The use of medications and artificial opioids make it more difficult for the parasympathetic system to perform its functions properly.

By helping to lower sympathetic overdrive, calm the body through natural Met-enkephalin production and mitigating or eliminating the need for addictive pain medications, Nu-V3 helps to re-establish the proper balance between the SNS and the PSNS, empowering the body and the ANS to do what it was originally intended to do.

The ANS and heart rate variability

Heart rate variability, or the activity which takes place between each heartbeat gives an indication of how the autonomic nervous system is functioning.  Our ability to track the ANS, utilizing our 30 second ECG hardware in sync with Nu-Life's licensed HRV software, provides an extremely accurate analysis of the patient's results as they progress through the Nu-Life Treatment Program.
